Correct proportions between various openings for fireplaces have been worked out over the years, and should be followed to assure a safe, smoke-free fireplace. Chimneys appear easy but there are many parts that go into a safe, smoke-free masonry chimney. Anyone who attempts to build a firebox should be a Journeyman Mason. If your existing chimney is in such bad condition that removal and replacement has been suggested, we can handle that.
